What Does “Advocate” Mean in the Bible?

In the King James Bible, Advocate means lawyer in modern English. It is an archaic word from the 1611 KJV that has dropped out of everyday use.

What Was Lost

The alongside-ness. Parakletos meant 'called to one's side' -- not hired from across town but standing right next to you, in the courtroom and in life. Jesus as advocate was not a distant lawyer filing briefs but a companion standing at your side before the Father, His arm around you.
