What Does “Angel” Mean in the Bible?
In the King James Bible, “Angel” means “winged spiritual being” in modern English. It is an archaic word from the 1611 KJV that has dropped out of everyday use.
What Was Lost
The terror. Every angel appearance in scripture begins with 'Fear not' because the natural response to an angel was paralyzing terror. These were agents of the divine court, carrying the authority of the Almighty. Ezekiel's angels had four faces and were covered with eyes. Isaiah's seraphim had six wings. They were not cute.
