Archaic KJV Word

What Does “Branch” Mean in the Bible?

In the King James Bible, Branch means part of a tree in modern English. It is an archaic word from the 1611 KJV that has dropped out of everyday use.

What Was Lost

The messianic title. 'The Branch' was a technical term for the coming Messiah -- the shoot that would grow from the stump of Jesse's tree after David's dynasty was cut down. Jesus was from Nazareth (netser/Nazarene), a wordplay on 'Branch.' The messianic hope was embedded in a botanical word that readers now pass over.
