What Does “Bread” Mean in the Bible?
In the King James Bible, “Bread” means “food item” in modern English. It is an archaic word from the 1611 KJV that has dropped out of everyday use.
What Was Lost
The daily dependence. 'Give us this day our daily bread' echoed the manna story -- God providing exactly enough for one day, teaching Israel to depend on Him moment by moment. Bread was not a food preference but survival itself. 'I am the bread of life' meant 'I am the thing without which you die today.'
