What Does “Comforter” Mean in the Bible?

In the King James Bible, Comforter means Helper in modern English. It is an archaic word from the 1611 KJV that has dropped out of everyday use.

What Was Lost

The Comforter was not the one who patted your back when you cried -- the Comforter was the one who fortified your soul so you could walk into the arena. Con + fortis: 'with strength.' The Holy Spirit as divine Strengthener, not divine Soother.
