Bible Chapter Summary

1 Chronicles 5 Summary

Reuben, Gad, and Half-Manasseh's Wars

This chapter explains that Reuben's birthright was given to Joseph's sons because he defiled his father's bed, though Judah prevailed and produced the chief ruler. It records Reuben's genealogy and then details how the Reubenites, Gadites, and half of Manasseh made war with the Hagarites. With God's help, they defeated their enemies, took great plunder, but later transgressed against God and were carried into captivity by the kings of Assyria.
