Bible Chapter Summary
1 Kings 17 Summary
Elijah Proclaims Drought and Raises Widow's Son
The prophet Elijah declares to King Ahab that there shall be no dew nor rain except by his word, then hides by the brook Cherith where ravens feed him bread and flesh. When the brook dries up, God sends him to Zarephath to a widow woman who feeds him from her last meal of meal and oil, which the Lord miraculously sustains until rain returns. When the widow's son dies, Elijah stretches himself upon the child three times, praying to the Lord, and the child's soul returns to him and he revives; the widow declares that Elijah is a man of God and the Lord's word in his mouth is truth.
