Bible Chapter Summary
1 Kings 8 Summary
Ark Brought to the Temple
Solomon assembles the elders, heads of tribes, and chief fathers to bring the ark of the covenant from the city of David to the new temple. The priests carry the ark, the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels, with King Solomon and the great congregation sacrificing sheep and oxen in such multitude they cannot be numbered. The priests set the ark in the oracle, the most holy place, under the wings of the cherubims; when they emerge from the holy place, the cloud fills the house of the LORD, and the glory of God so fills the temple that the priests cannot stand to minister. Solomon blesses the congregation and offers prayer, acknowledging that God has kept His word to David and setting forth a lengthy intercession for God to hear prayers made toward the temple.
