Bible Chapter Summary
1 Samuel 1 Summary
Hannah's Prayer and Samuel's Birth
Elkanah, an Ephrathite, has two wives: Hannah, childless, and Peninnah, who has children and provokes Hannah severely. During their yearly sacrifice at Shiloh, Hannah weeps and prays bitterly to God, vowing that if He grants her a son, she will dedicate him to the Lord all his life with no razor coming upon his head. After Eli blesses her and she finds peace, Hannah conceives and bears a son named Samuel. When Samuel is weaned, she brings him to the house of the Lord at Shiloh and presents him to Eli, dedicating him to serve the Lord forever.
