Bible Chapter Summary

1 Samuel 18 Summary

Jonathan's Covenant with David

After David kills Goliath, Jonathan's soul is knit with David's and he loves him as his own soul. Jonathan makes a covenant with David and gives him his robe, garments, sword, bow, and girdle. David goes out and behaves himself wisely wherever Saul sends him, and is accepted by all the people and Saul's servants. When women sing that Saul has slain his thousands and David his ten thousands, Saul becomes wrathful, eyes David from that day forward, and fears him because the Lord is with David. Saul removes David from his household and makes him captain over a thousand. David's success continues and he is loved by Israel and Judah. Saul offers his daughters to David in marriage as a snare, but Michal falls in love with him. After David performs a deed requiring the foreskins of two hundred Philistines, Saul gives him Michal to wife, yet his fear of David grows continually.
