Bible Chapter Summary
2 Chronicles 17 Summary
Jehoshaphat's Reforms and Military Strength
Jehoshaphat becomes king and strengthens himself militarily against Israel by fortifying the cities of Judah and setting garrisons throughout the land. The Lord is with him because he walks in the first ways of his father David, seeking the Lord and not following the gods of Israel. He removes high places and groves from Judah. In his third year, Jehoshaphat sends princes, Levites, and priests throughout the cities to teach the people from the book of the law. This spreads fear of the Lord to all surrounding kingdoms, which bring him tribute and gifts. Jehoshaphat builds castles and store cities, acquires great military forces, and becomes exceeding mighty, with professional soldiers and captains commanding hundreds of thousands of warriors.
