Bible Chapter Summary
2 Kings 5 Summary
Naaman's Leprosy Healed Through Humble Obedience
Naaman, a great Syrian general, is a leper despite his honor and might. A captive Israelite servant girl tells his wife of a prophet in Samaria who can heal him. Naaman brings gifts and a letter to the king of Israel, who despairs at the request, but Elisha offers to heal him. Naaman must wash seven times in the Jordan; he initially refuses, expecting a more elaborate ritual, but his servants persuade him to obey. His flesh is restored like a child's, and he returns to Elisha proclaiming that no god exists but Israel's God. Gehazi, Elisha's servant, deceives Naaman by claiming the prophet sent him for payment; Elisha rebukes Gehazi and strikes him with Naaman's leprosy.
