Bible Chapter Summary
2 Kings 9 Summary
Jehu Anointed King and Executes God's Judgment
Elisha sends a young prophet to Ramoth-gilead to anoint Jehu, son of Jehoshaphat, as king over Israel and command him to smite the house of Ahab to avenge the blood of the LORD's servants and the wickedness of Jezebel. The prophets proclaim Jehu king with trumpets. Jehu rides swiftly to Jezreel where Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah are present; he kills Joram with an arrow to the heart and pursues Ahaziah, who flees to Megiddo and dies there. When Jezebel hears of Jehu's coming, she paints her face and looks out a window; Jehu orders her thrown down and she is trampled under his horses. Her blood spatters the wall and horses, and when Jehu orders her burial, only her skull, feet, and palms of her hands are found, fulfilling Elijah's word that dogs will eat Jezebel's flesh.
