2 Samuel 9 Summary

David's Kindness to Mephibosheth

David inquires whether any of Saul's house remains to whom he might show kindness for Jonathan's sake. He learns from Ziba, a servant of Saul, of Jonathan's surviving son Mephibosheth, who is lame in both feet and dwells in Lo-debar in the house of Machir. David sends and fetches Mephibosheth, who falls prostrate before him in reverence. David assures him, restores all the land that belonged to Saul to him, and grants him a place at the royal table perpetually. Mephibosheth humbly questions his unworthiness, and David instructs Ziba, his fifteen sons, and twenty servants to till the land for Mephibosheth's benefit while Mephibosheth eats at David's table like one of the king's sons. Mephibosheth dwells in Jerusalem and eats continually at the king's table, though lame on both feet.
