Bible Chapter Summary
3 John 1 Summary
Commendation and Warning for a Church
The elder writes to Gaius, his beloved friend, expressing joy that Gaius walks in truth and demonstrating faithfulness toward the brethren and travelers who go forth for the gospel's sake. He warns against Diotrephes, who loves preeminence, speaks maliciously against the elder, refuses to receive the brethren, and casts them out of the church. The elder urges Gaius to follow that which is good and commends Demetrius, who has a good report, while expressing his desire to speak with Gaius face to face.
