Bible Chapter Summary
Acts 14 Summary
Signs, Wonders, and Persecution in Galatia
Paul and Barnabas go into the synagogue at Iconium and speak so that a great multitude of both Jews and Greeks believe. Unbelieving Jews stir up the Gentiles and make their minds evil affected against the brethren. The apostles abide long, speaking boldly as the Lord gives testimony to the word of His grace through signs and wonders done by their hands. The city is divided, but they flee to Lystra when an assault is made to stone them. At Lystra, Paul perceives faith in a cripple impotent from birth and commands him to stand upright on his feet; he leaps and walks. The people call Barnabas Jupiter and Paul Mercurius. The priest brings oxen and garlands to sacrifice, but the apostles tear their clothes and run among the people, declaring they are men of like passions and calling them to turn from vanities unto the living God. Jews from Antioch persuade the people, stone Paul, and drag him out supposing him dead. The disciples stand round about him; he rises and enters the city. Paul and Barnabas return through the cities confirming disciples, ordain elders in every church, and commend them to the Lord.
