Bible Chapter Summary
Ecclesiastes 12 Summary
Remember Your Creator in Youth
The preacher concludes by calling the young to remember their Creator while still in youth, before evil days and darkness come upon them, depicted through the metaphor of a body's decay—keepers of the house trembling, strong men bowing, senses failing, and all doors shut. Death returns dust to earth and spirit to God, the giver of life, with all that precedes being vanity. The preacher then reflects on his role as teacher of wisdom, crafting proverbs and seeking upright words, warning that the words of the wise are like nails and goads, and that much study wearies the flesh. The final conclusion rings forth: fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man, since God shall bring every work into judgment.
