Bible Chapter Summary
Ecclesiastes 4 Summary
Oppression and the Value of Companionship
The Preacher observes the oppressions under the sun and the tears of the oppressed without comforters, reflecting that the dead and even the unborn are better off than the living. He notes that envy arises from labor and accomplishment. Contrasting the fool who folds his hands and eats his own flesh, the Preacher advocates for rest with quietness over full hands with labor and vexation. He demonstrates that two are better than one in labor and support, and illustrates the value of companionship through warmth, mutual aid, and shared strength, while a solitary man labors endlessly without understanding his purpose.
