Bible Chapter Summary
Ecclesiastes 7 Summary
Wisdom in Mortality and Moderation
A good name surpasses precious ointment, and the day of death is better than the day of birth because it is the end of all men. The house of mourning is better than the house of feasting, and sorrow better than laughter because sadness makes the heart better. Rebuke from the wise excels the song of fools. The Preacher counsels against hasty anger, advises against excessive righteousness or wickedness, warns that oppression drives the wise to madness, and notes that justice is often perverted and corrupt. He observes that one just man perishes in his righteousness while a wicked man prolongs his life in wickedness, and concludes that he found one man among a thousand wise but no wise woman among all women.
