Bible Chapter Summary
Exodus 15 Summary
Song of Moses and Wilderness Journey Begins
Moses and the children of Israel sing a victory song to the LORD, celebrating His triumph over Pharaoh's chariots and horsemen who were drowned in the Red Sea. The song praises God's power, holiness, and mercy, and looks forward to the nations trembling and Israel being planted in the LORD's sanctuary. Miriam the prophetess, sister of Aaron, leads the women in singing and dancing with timbrels, echoing the song's opening refrain. The narrative then follows Israel into the wilderness of Shur, where bitter waters at Marah are miraculously sweetened by a tree cast in at God's direction, accompanied by a conditional promise of divine healing, before the people encamp at the well-watered oasis of Elim.
