Bible Chapter Summary

Exodus 31 Summary

Craftsmen Appointed and Sabbath Commanded

The LORD tells Moses that He has specifically called Bezaleel of the tribe of Judah, filling him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, understanding, and all manner of craftsmanship, and has appointed Aholiab of the tribe of Dan alongside him, together with all the skilled workers needed to construct the tabernacle, its furnishings, the priestly garments, the anointing oil, and the sacred incense. God then solemnly commands Moses to instruct the children of Israel to keep the Sabbath, declaring it a perpetual sign of the covenant between Him and Israel, grounded in His own rest on the seventh day of creation, and prescribing death for any who profane it. The chapter closes with God giving Moses the two stone tables of testimony, written by the finger of God, upon the conclusion of their meeting on Mount Sinai.
