Bible Chapter Summary

Ezekiel 19 Summary

Lament for the Princes of Israel

God commands Ezekiel to take up a lamentation for the princes of Israel. He presents the riddle of a lioness (Israel's house) who nourished her whelps among young lions, raising one who learned to catch prey and devoured men until the nations caught him and brought him to Egypt. She then raised another whelp who roamed among the lions, learned to catch prey, and laid waste to cities, but was captured by nations and brought in chains to the king of Babylon. God also describes Israel's mother as a vine planted by waters, fruitful with strong rods for rulers' scepters, but plucked up in fury, cast down, dried by the east wind, consumed by fire, and now planted in a wilderness. Her strong rod was broken, and now fire goes out from her branches that consumes her fruit, leaving no strong rod to be a scepter to rule.
