Galatians 4 Summary

Sons and Heirs Through Christ

Paul uses the analogy of an heir under guardians to explain that believers, once enslaved under the elements of the world, have been redeemed by Christ to receive adoption as sons of God. Through the Spirit crying "Abba, Father" in their hearts, they are no longer servants but heirs. Paul then expounds this through Abraham's two sons, contrasting the bondwoman Hagar (representing the law and earthly Jerusalem) with the freewoman Sarah (representing the promise and heavenly Jerusalem), teaching that believers are children of promise, not bondage.
