Bible Chapter Summary
Hebrews 5 Summary
Christ the Perfect High Priest
Every high priest from among men is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins and to show compassion for the ignorant and erring. Christ, called by God with the oath "Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec," offered prayers and tears unto God and was heard. Though a Son, he learned obedience through suffering and became the author of eternal salvation for all who obey him. The author rebukes his hearers for spiritual dullness, noting they need milk rather than strong meat suited to mature believers.
