Bible Chapter Summary
Isaiah 19 Summary
Egypt's Turmoil and Ultimate Redemption
The burden of Egypt: the LORD rides upon a swift cloud and comes into Egypt; the idols shall be moved and Egypt's heart shall melt. The LORD shall set Egyptians against Egyptians, brother against brother, city against city, kingdom against kingdom, and shall destroy their counsel. They shall seek idols and charmers instead of the true God. A cruel lord and fierce king shall rule over them; the waters shall fail, the river shall be dried up, and all things sown by the brooks shall wither. Egypt's wise counselors are become fools; they have caused Egypt to err as a drunken man. Yet in that day, five cities shall speak the language of Canaan and swear to the LORD; an altar shall be raised in Egypt's midst, and a savior shall be sent to deliver the oppressed. Egypt shall become known to the LORD, who shall smite and heal them; a highway shall join Egypt, Assyria, and Israel in mutual service and blessing.
