Bible Chapter Summary

Jude 1 Summary

Warning Against Ungodly Deceivers

Jude writes to exhort believers to contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints, for ungodly men have crept in unawares, turning God's grace into licentiousness and denying the Lord. He reminds them of historical examples of God's judgment: how the Lord destroyed those who did not believe after saving them from Egypt, how he reserved fallen angels in chains, and how Sodom and Gomorrah were set forth as an example of eternal fire's vengeance. These false teachers, like Enoch prophesied, will be judged by the Lord, for they separate themselves through their sensual nature, lacking the Spirit, but believers are instructed to build themselves up in the most holy faith, keep themselves in God's love, and have compassion on some while saving others from the fire.
