Bible Chapter Summary
Leviticus 6 Summary
Laws of Trespass, Offerings, and Priestly Duties
Leviticus 6 opens with the LORD instructing Moses on the law of trespass: anyone who sins against a neighbor through deceit, theft, false swearing, or withholding found property must make full restitution plus one-fifth of the value, and bring a ram as a trespass offering so the priest may make atonement and the offender receive forgiveness. The LORD then delivers detailed priestly regulations for several offerings: the burnt offering fire must never go out on the altar, with the priest tending the ashes in proper linen garments each morning; the grain (meat) offering's remainder is to be eaten unleavened by the male Aaronites in the tabernacle court, while the anointed priests' own grain offering must be wholly burned and not eaten. Finally, the law of the sin offering is given: it is most holy, killed and eaten by the officiating priest in the tabernacle court, with strict rules for purifying any vessel or garment that contacts it, though any sin offering whose blood is brought into the tabernacle for reconciliation must be burned entirely rather than eaten.
