Bible Chapter Summary

Luke 20 Summary

Authority Challenged and the Vineyard Parable

When the chief priests, scribes, and elders demand by what authority Jesus teaches and preaches in the temple, He answers by asking them whether John's baptism was from heaven or men, confounding them. He then speaks the parable of a vineyard let to husbandmen: the owner sends servants who are beaten and sent away empty, finally sending his beloved son, whom the husbandmen kill to take the inheritance. Jesus declares that the lord will destroy these husbandmen and give the vineyard to others. He teaches that the stone which builders rejected becomes the head of the corner, and warns that the chief priests and scribes sought to lay hands on Him, perceiving the parable was spoken against them.
