Mark 6 Summary

Apostles Sent Out and John Beheaded

Jesus returns to his own country but is rejected by those who knew him as the carpenter. He sends the twelve apostles out by two and two with power over unclean spirits, commanding them to take nothing for their journey and to shake off the dust where they are not received. Meanwhile, King Herod hears of Jesus and believes him to be John the Baptist risen from the dead; this recalls how Herod had imprisoned John for condemning his marriage to Herodias. At Herod's birthday feast, the daughter of Herodias dances and requests John's head, which Herod grants, and John is beheaded in prison. The apostles gather and tell Jesus all things, and he teaches a great multitude with compassion, miraculously feeding five thousand with five loaves and two fishes.
