Nehemiah 4 Summary

Opposition and Armed Defense

Enemies—Sanballat, Tobiah, and the Arabians—mock the rebuilding work and conspire to attack Jerusalem. Nehemiah sets a watch day and night and encourages the people to remember the Lord and fight for their families. The builders arm themselves, with half standing guard while the other half works. Each builder carries a sword, and a trumpeter stands ready to signal danger.
