Bible Chapter Summary
Psalms 89 Summary
God's Covenant with David and Judgment
The psalmist declares his eternal song of God's mercies and faithfulness to all generations, for God made a covenant with David His servant, establishing his seed forever and building his throne to all generations. God's power rules the raging sea, breaks His enemies, and has founded all things. The Lord's throne is established on justice and judgment, with mercy and truth going before His face. God promised to make David's hand set in the sea and raised him as His firstborn, higher than all kings, keeping mercy for him forever. Yet God later cast off and abhorred His anointed, breaking down his hedges, making his enemies rejoice, and covering him with shame, while the psalmist calls on God to remember His former lovingkindnesses to David.
