What Does “Humble” Mean in the Bible?

In the King James Bible, Humble means modest in modern English. It is an archaic word from the 1611 KJV that has dropped out of everyday use.

What Was Lost

The ground-level posture. Tapeinos meant physically low to the ground -- close to the humus (earth). Humility was not thinking less of yourself but recognizing the actual scale: you are creature, God is Creator. The humble person was not self-hating but accurately positioned -- close to the earth, looking up.
