Bible Chapter Summary
1 Chronicles 21 Summary
David's Census and the Plague
Satan provokes David to number Israel against Joab's counsel. God is displeased with the census and sends pestilence upon Israel, killing seventy thousand men. An angel sent to destroy Jerusalem stops at the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. David purchases Ornan's threshingfloor for six hundred shekels of gold, builds an altar there, and offers sacrifices; the Lord answers by fire from heaven.
