1 Kings 1 Summary

Solomon Anointed King

As King David approaches death and cannot keep warm, his servants bring Abishag, a young woman, to care for him. David's son Adonijah attempts to seize the throne by sacrificing animals and declaring himself king, but Nathan the prophet and Bathsheba convince the aging David to confirm Solomon as his chosen successor. David orders Zadok, Nathan, and Benaiah to anoint Solomon king at Gihon, where they proclaim him with trumpet blasts and great rejoicing.
