Bible Chapter Summary

1 Kings 2 Summary

David's Final Charge to Solomon

As David lies dying, he charges his son Solomon to be strong and walk in the ways of the LORD, keeping His commandments and statutes as written in the law of Moses. David instructs Solomon to deal with certain men justly: to repay Joab for murders he committed, to show kindness to Barzillai's sons, and to execute judgment on Shimei for his cursing. After David sleeps with his fathers, Solomon sits firmly on the throne and begins to deal with these men, executing Adonijah and Joab, exiling Abiathar, and eventually executing Shimei.
