1 Kings 14 Summary
Jeroboam's Son Dies; Rehoboam's Reign
Jeroboam's son Abijah falls sick, and Jeroboam's wife visits the prophet Ahijah in disguise to inquire of the Lord; Ahijah pronounces that the child will die and that evil will come upon Jeroboam's house because he has done evil above all before him. The child dies when his mother returns home, and all Israel mourns him, fulfilling Ahijah's word. Meanwhile, Rehoboam reigns seventeen years in Judah as the Lord chose Jerusalem, but he and the people do evil, building high places and idols; in the fifth year, Shishak of Egypt plunders both the Lord's house and the king's treasures.
