Bible Chapter Summary

1 Kings 5 Summary

Solomon and Hiram Covenant Together

Hiram, king of Tyre, sends greetings to Solomon upon hearing he is king. Solomon sends word that David could not build God's house because of wars surrounding him, but now the LORD has given him rest on all sides, and he proposes to build a house for the LORD's name. Solomon asks Hiram to provide cedar from Lebanon, saying his men will work with Hiram's men, and Solomon will pay hire for Hiram's servants according to his appointment. Hiram rejoices and agrees to provide both cedar and fir timber; Solomon provides wheat and pure oil to Hiram yearly.
