Bible Chapter Summary

1 Thessalonians 5 Summary

Readiness for the Day of the Lord

Paul instructs the Thessalonians that the day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night, with sudden destruction upon those who cry peace and safety, yet the believers are not in darkness that the day should overtake them as a thief. Being children of light and of the day, they must be sober and watchful, putting on the breastplate of faith and love and the helmet of the hope of salvation. Paul assures them that God has not appointed them to wrath but to obtain salvation by Christ, and commands them to comfort and edify one another, exhorting the unruly, comforting the feebleminded, and supporting the weak.
