2 Chronicles 12 Summary

Shishak's Invasion and Rehoboam's Repentance

After Rehoboam establishes his kingdom, he forsakes the law of the Lord. In response, Shishak king of Egypt invades with a great host, takes the fortified cities, and comes against Jerusalem. The Lord's prophet Shemaiah tells Rehoboam the invasion is judgment for forsaking God, but promises partial deliverance to those who humble themselves. Rehoboam and the princes repent, God withdraws His wrath, yet Shishak plunders the treasures of the temple and palace. Rehoboam replaces the golden shields with brass ones and reigns seventeen years in Jerusalem.
