Bible Chapter Summary
2 Chronicles 33 Summary
Manasseh's Evil Reign and Repentance
Manasseh begins his reign at age twelve and does evil by rebuilding the high places, erecting altars for Baalim, worshipping the host of heaven, causing his children to pass through fire, and practicing witchcraft and divination in the house of God. Though God speaks to Manasseh and Judah through prophets, they refuse to hear. The LORD brings Assyrian captains who capture Manasseh in thorns, bind him with fetters, and carry him to Babylon. In affliction, Manasseh humbles himself greatly, beseeches God, and is heard; God brings him back to Jerusalem. Recognizing that the LORD is God, Manasseh removes idols, repairs the altar, and commands Judah to serve God, though the people still sacrifice in high places. After a brief and wicked reign of his son Amon, the people install Josiah as king.
