Bible Chapter Summary
2 Chronicles 32 Summary
Deliverance from Sennacherib's Invasion
Sennacherib of Assyria invades Judah and besieges the fortified cities, prompting Hezekiah to strengthen Jerusalem's walls and encourage his people to trust in God rather than fear the Assyrian king. The Assyrian servants taunt Israel with threats that their God cannot deliver them, but Hezekiah and Isaiah pray, and the LORD sends an angel who destroys all the Assyrian mighty men and leaders. Sennacherib returns in shame to his own land where he is killed by his own sons. After this miraculous deliverance, Hezekiah becomes ill unto death but prays and recovers; he humbles himself for his pride so God's wrath is averted. Hezekiah amasses great wealth and honor in treasuries, stores, and possessions, though he later tests God's patience through pride.
