2 Kings 14 Summary

Amaziah's Conflict and Defeat

Amaziah begins to reign at twenty-five and does what is right, though high places remain. He executes the servants who killed his father but spares their children according to the law. After defeating ten thousand Edomites in the Salt Valley, Amaziah challenges Jehoash of Israel, who responds with a parable warning against pride. At Beth-shemesh, Judah is defeated, Amaziah is captured, and Israel's king takes treasures from the temple and breaks down Jerusalem's wall. After Jehoash dies, Amaziah lives another fifteen years but eventually faces conspiracy, flees to Lachish, and is killed there.
