Bible Chapter Summary
2 Kings 3 Summary
Three Kings Against Moab and the Prophet's Counsel
King Jehoram of Israel seeks aid from Jehoshaphat of Judah and the king of Edom to fight the rebellious king of Moab. After seven days of marching through the wilderness, the allied armies find themselves without water. Jehoram despairs, but Jehoshaphat calls for the prophet Elisha, who demands respect and then promises water and victory over Moab through the LORD's power. Water miraculously appears, and the Moabites mistake its red reflection for blood and retreat in disarray. Israel pursues and defeats Moab, destroying cities and filling wells, though the Moabite king's desperate sacrifice of his own son turns the battle and the allies withdraw.
