Bible Chapter Summary
Acts 18 Summary
Paul's Ministry in Corinth and Aquila
Paul departs Athens and comes to Corinth, where he finds Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy with his wife Priscilla because Claudius commanded all Jews to depart from Rome. Paul abides with them as a tentmaker by occupation. Every sabbath he reasons in the synagogue, persuading Jews and Greeks. When Silas and Timotheus come from Macedonia, Paul is pressed in the spirit and testifies to the Jews that Jesus is Christ. When they oppose and blaspheme, Paul shakes his raiment and declares their blood is upon their own heads, and he will go unto the Gentiles. He enters the house of Justus, one that worships God, whose house joins hard to the synagogue. Crispus, chief ruler of the synagogue, believes with all his house, and many Corinthians believe and are baptized. The Lord speaks to Paul in a vision by night, saying, Be not afraid but speak, for He is with him and has much people in this city. Paul continues there a year and six months teaching the word of God. When Gallio is the deputy of Achaia, the Jews make insurrection and bring Paul to the judgment seat. Gallio says he will be no judge of such matters and drives them from the judgment seat. Paul sails into Syria with Priscilla and Aquila, comes to Ephesus, and reasons with the Jews, though he does not tarry.
