Bible Chapter Summary
Acts 19 Summary
Holy Ghost Baptism and Miraculous Signs in Ephesus
While Apollos is at Corinth, Paul passes through the upper coasts and comes to Ephesus, finding certain disciples. He asks if they have received the Holy Ghost since believing. They say they have not heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. Paul asks unto what they were baptized, and they answer, Unto John's baptism. Paul explains John baptized with repentance and taught people to believe on Christ Jesus. When they hear this, they are baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Paul lays his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost comes on them, they speak with tongues and prophesy. He goes into the synagogue and speaks boldly for three months, disputing and persuading things concerning the kingdom of God. When some are hardened and believe not, speaking evil of the way, Paul separates the disciples and disputes daily in the school of Tyrannus. This continues two years, so all in Asia hear the word of the Lord. God works special miracles by Paul's hands; handkerchiefs and aprons from his body bring healing to the sick and cast out evil spirits. Certain vagabond Jews, exorcists, take upon them to call over those with evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, but the evil spirit overcomes them and they flee naked and wounded. Fear falls on all, and the name of the Lord Jesus is magnified. Many that believe come and confess, showing their deeds. Those using curious arts burn their books; the price is fifty thousand pieces of silver. The word of God grows mightily and prevails.
