Bible Chapter Summary
Amos 6 Summary
Woe to the Careless and Complacent
Woe comes upon those at ease in Zion and trusting in the mountain of Samaria, the chief of the nations to whom Israel came. They lie upon beds of ivory, stretch themselves on couches, eat lambs from the flock and calves from the stall, chant to the sound of viols and invent instruments of music like David, and drink wine in bowls while anointing themselves with chief ointments. Yet they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph. The LORD swears by himself that he abhors the excellency of Jacob and hates his palaces, declaring he will deliver up the city with all that is therein. When the LORD commands and smites the great house with breaches and the little house with clefts, the people shall turn judgment into gall and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock. The LORD will raise up a nation against the house of Israel that will afflict them.
