Daniel 10 Summary

Daniel's Vision by the River Hiddekel

In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a vision is revealed to Daniel concerning a thing true with a long appointed time. Daniel mourns three full weeks, eating no pleasant food, neither flesh nor wine, nor anointing himself. On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, standing by the great river Hiddekel, he sees a man clothed in linen with loins girded with fine gold, whose body is like beryl, his face as lightning, his eyes as lamps of fire, and his voice as a multitude. Though his companions see not the vision, a great quaking falls upon them and they flee. Daniel is left alone and weakened, his strength departing. A hand touches him and sets him on his knees and palms, and the man speaks, saying Daniel is greatly beloved and his words were heard from the first day he set his heart to understand and chasten himself before God. The angel reveals that the prince of Persia withstood him twenty-one days until Michael, a chief prince, came to help, and now he comes to make Daniel understand what shall befall his people in the latter days. Daniel is strengthened and told to be strong, with the vision assured to be for many days.
