Deuteronomy 32 Summary

Moses's Song of Warning and God's Faithfulness

Deuteronomy 32 contains the Song of Moses, a lengthy poem delivered to all Israel as a witness against them. Moses calls heaven and earth to listen as he praises God's perfection, justice, and faithfulness, contrasting these with Israel's corruption, ingratitude, and idolatry—particularly their forsaking of God after enjoying His abundant provision. God declares that He will hide His face and bring devastating judgments upon His people—including famine, plague, beasts, sword, and terror—yet He restrains full destruction lest enemy nations wrongly credit themselves for Israel's ruin, and He ultimately promises to avenge His servants and show mercy to His land. After the song is delivered with Hoshea (Joshua) the son of Nun, Moses urges Israel to take these words to heart as their very life, after which the LORD commands Moses to ascend Mount Nebo to view Canaan before dying there, as Aaron had died on Mount Hor, because of Moses's trespass at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh.
