Bible Chapter Summary
Ephesians 4 Summary
Walking Worthy and Building Up the Body of Christ
Paul exhorts believers to walk worthy of their calling with lowliness, meekness, and longsuffering, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. He reminds them of the one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, and one baptism, and explains that Christ ascended on high and gave gifts to men—apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers—for the perfecting and edifying of the body of Christ. Paul then warns them not to be as children tossed to and fro by false doctrines, but to speak truth in love and grow up into Christ. He concludes with practical instructions: put off the old man, put on the new man created in righteousness, speak truth, manage anger, work diligently, speak edifying words, and forgive one another as God has forgiven them.
