Bible Chapter Summary
Esther 7 Summary
Haman's Plot Revealed and His Execution
At Esther's second banquet, the king again asks what her petition is and promises to grant it to the half of the kingdom. Esther reveals that she and her people have been sold to be destroyed, slain, and to perish, and beseeches the king to save her life and the life of her people. The king demands to know who would dare do such a thing, and Esther declares that Haman is the adversary and enemy. Haman becomes afraid before the king and queen. The king, in wrath, rises and goes into the palace garden, and Haman stays to make request for his life to Esther. When the king returns from the garden and sees Haman fallen upon the bed where Esther sits, he says, "Will he force the queen also before me in the house?" As the king's word goes out, they cover Haman's face. Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, recalls that the gallows which Haman prepared for Mordecai stands in Haman's house. The king commands, "Hang him thereon," and they hang Haman on the gallows he had prepared.
